At the end of the day, Mamta Banerjee and Jayalalitha are having their last laugh when the election results 2011 have been announced. While Trinamool Congress led Mamta Banerjee swept to power in West Bengal routing the Left, Jayalalitha is going to rule Tamilnadu with the popular mandate in her favor.
Out of 294 seats in West Bengal Assembly, TMC-Congress alliance got around 225 seats while the left were confined to only 65 seats. In Tamilnadu also, AIADMK led by Jayalalitha won in 193 seats. Both these leaders were able to secure more than two-third majority in the house.
Mamta Banerjee has been fighting for long to oust the Left from power and the state saw a change of guard after a span of 34 years. About 17 ministers from the Left cabinet has got defeated and that includes the Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya from his own constituency, Jadavpur. The industry minister Nirupam Sen and the face of the Left party in the polls, Mr Goutam Deb got defeated by huge margins of more than 30,000 votes.
Both the ruling Chief Ministers of these states, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya and Karunanidhi has submitted their resignation to their respective governors. Congress spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan has said that they will continue to remain with their allies in spite of the defeated electoral results. In West Bengal, whether the Congress will join the Mamta Banerjee led government, has not yet been decided. The decision will be taken at the high command level.
